Altar Servers

"Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord." Romans 12:11

Altar Servers are chosen from the faithful who display a desire to participate in a more intimate way during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. It is an extreme privilege to kneel so close to the altar as our loving Savior, Jesus Christ, becomes truly present, body, blood, soul and divinity. In the presence of Our King it is both wise and necessary for you to perform all assigned duties with attention, dignity and reverence. Also keep in mind to attend to every action of the Divine Liturgy as a team, all serving the Sacred Mass in the same manner and style as your companion Altar Servers. ~ Deacon Dave Rospert
Youth in grades 4-12 and/or adult servers assist the priest during Mass. Adult servers are needed for funeral Masses and other celebrations when youth servers are unavailable.

Working with the pastor or associate pastors, the Church Environment Teams plan and decorate the church to communicate and celebrate the liturgical seasons. A planning committee meets prior to Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, and Ordinary Time. Additional volunteers are needed to water the indoor and outdoor plants.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (EMHC) assist in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ during the celebration of the Mass. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion offer the Eucharist, recognize the Body of Christ in those whom they offer Eucharist, and ultimately act as the Body of Christ by fully participating in the life of the parish and the wider community.

Some Extraordinary Ministers extend their ministry by taking communion to shut-ins and those in the hospital and nursing homes.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are asked to serve a 2-year renewable commitment and, after initial training, participate in ongoing formation every two years throughout their ministry.

Our lectors have the privilege of proclaiming the Word of God at Mass in such a way that it comes to life in the hearts of the assembly. As a lector, when you pray, prepare and proclaim the Word of God well, you not only enhance the beauty of the liturgy but you become the instrument through whom God speaks to all members of the assembly.

Liturgical Hospitality ~ Ushers

“Whoever welcomes you, welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me,
welcomes the One who sent me”. Mt. 10:40

Ushers help create an atmosphere of hospitality through their words and actions, welcoming parishioners and visitors as they gather for worship, and helping guests locate seats and other areas of our church. Ushers assist with the Offertory and the Sunday collection and distribute bulletins and other materials.

Your willingness to serve the people of God as an usher, reflects your commitment to Christ. Being a friendly, welcoming presence to those coming to worship is a further reflection of your willingness to respond fully to your Baptismal call.

Liturgy Committees

Liturgy Committees

The ministerial role of the parish Liturgy Committee is three-fold: planning/preparation, evaluation, and education. The parish liturgy committees provide initial and on-going training for all liturgical ministers and also provides liturgical catechesis for all parishioners. The group collaborates on seasonal planning for Sunday worship throughout the liturgical year and plans various sacramental celebrations and other prayer experiences including Stations of the Cross and Holy Hours. Committee members continue to educate themselves through reading and attending various seminars and workshops. Our parish Liturgy Committees also provide ongoing formation for liturgical ministers.
Our pastor also meets with a combined Liturgy Committee, with members from each of our three parishes, to plan tri-parish Masses and liturgical celebrations.

Mass Coordinators

Mass Coordinators/ Sacristans

Mass Coordinators assist our priests by preparing the church and sacristy for daily and Sunday Masses. They ensure that the offertory gifts are ready, lights and microphones are on, and other necessary tasks are completed.

Our music ministries provide the assembly with vocal and instrumental support in its full, active, conscious, participation in the celebration of the Liturgy.

The Mixed Choir provides musical leadership during our liturgies. Members have a love for enhancing the Mass through music. You do not need to read music to be a member. Youth in 5th-12th grade are welcome to sing with the choir. Rehearsals are Monday evenings at 6:00 PM, with monthly appreciation celebrations.

Choir: St. Mary’s maintains a choir for Sunday Masses throughout the year and for special feast days, such as Christmas and Easter. Practices are on Wednesday evenings when needed. Anyone from sixth grade and older are welcome to join.

Saturday Choir: When the Saturday, 4:00 PM Mass is at St. Mary’s (July - December), a smaller music group leads the singing. Everyone is welcome to join.

Bell Choir: A special bell choir, composed of volunteers who are able to read music, is formed each year to enhance the Christmas liturgy.

Funeral Choir: This group of volunteers assists in the funeral liturgies. Anyone is welcome to join this special ministry.

Cantors: Individual singers (sometimes with other musicians), lead music at any Masses. Their primary role is to proclaim the Psalm and Gospel Acclamation. Preparation is done on their own and they have the chance to warm up and rehearse at least 45 minutes prior to each Mass.

Mixed Choir: This choir is a fun ensemble of parishioners of all ages who love singing together in harmony for special liturgies. Students may join once they have received the Sacrament of Confirmation. This ensemble rehearses weekly in the church on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM, during the school year.

Choristers: Originally St. Paul Parish Children's choir, Choristers now includes students from Norwalk and neighboring towns, in grades 4-6. Students rehearse once a week after school during the school year and serve at St. Paul and other nearby parishes. Many of these students attend Norwalk Catholic School and also sing as a group for those school Masses.

Funeral Choir: This music ensemble supports families in mourning by leading music at funeral Masses. No commitment necessary; join us whenever you are able to attend.

Saxophone Quartet: This is a caring quartet of parishioners who come together for their love of liturgy and saxophones and search for ways to bring the two together appropriately for the glory of God alone.
